Week 1: Loyal3 - Recent Buys (MCD, WMT, GOOGL, BRK.B)

January 2 - January 8

My investments for week 1 of 2017 included MCD, WMT, GOOGL, BRK.B.  The yield this week was 1.80%.  The yield is low because Alphabet and Berkshire Hathaway do not pay dividends.  The amount of yearly dividends added ($4.49) is small, but will add up over time.  All of these purchases were part of my automatic buys.  This marks 53 consecutive weeks without paying commissions on my purchases! FIFTY THREE - pretty incredible if you are willing to open up various brokerage accounts!  Maybe I will make a post about this at some point!  Glad to be back posting weekly buys, but clearly have made great strides since this time last year. Slow and Steady.

Total Invested - $250.00
Commissions Paid - $0.00
Current Streak - 53 weeks*
Yearly Dividends Added - $4.49
Yield- 1.80%

*Paid Commissions fees on selling motifs but not on a purchase in over a year!

Full Disclosure: Long MCD, WMT, GOOGL, BRK.B, ALL HOLDINGS IN MY PORTFOLIO

I paid $0 in commissions for my purchases made in 2016! How much did you pay in commissions in 2016?

  1. Great call on Berkshire. Buffett is sitting on like $60+ billion in cash. When that gets deployed, you are going to enjoy the ride. It wouldn't surprise me to see Buffett add three to five billion in net cash flows to Berkshire's core economic engine during the next recession.

    1. Tim,

Thanks for stopping by. I know it does not pay a dividend but this is one of the companies I love outside of my dividend core. That cash sure will help!

  2. Nice buys, I'm always hesitant to by non-dividend stocks no matter how much I like them just because they don't contribute to me 2017 dividend goals. However Alphabet and Berkshire are two I would definitely go with.

Love how you can buy partial shares of stock! Something I can't do right now with Robinhood. =( I'd love to see your post on 53 weeks of commission free brokerage accounts.

    1. IH,

It has been very hard, but I've noticed how well my retirement portfolio has done over time and it just takes out any stress from investing!

  4. Hi DM,
Congrats on the purchases - I like WMT and MCD (I own both) and they're pretty well priced at the moment I think.
    Best wishes,
